Right now...
Right now the mission of the Rolling Wave Project is to get my butt to Brazil on September 18th the West Coast.
Why Brazil? The Brazilian time-line was too short to make a reality, so now I'm just selling t-shirts for income and hope to visit my family on the West Coast before I leave for Africa on October 15th.
Glad you asked! I am going to follow, support and report on the progress of the US National Homeless World Cup Team as they compete at this years Homeless World Cup in Rio de Janero, Brazil (September 19-26). Our local Charlotte team has two women competing with the first ever all-women national squad, the Lady Salamanders. I feel very fortunate to be so enveloped in such a great organization, utilizing sport for social change. I owe a lot to our local StreetSoccer945 team as well as the entire Urban Ministry Center. The lessons they have taught me have quite literally reshaped the core of my being!
After Brazil I plan on traveling to the West Coast to see my family (most of whom I've not seen since 2004 or later), before returning to Charlotte for a week. On October 15th I will be departing for Mwanza, Tanzania, for two months where I will be providing on-site IT consulting services to the Bugando Medical School until December 18th. The Bugando Medical School trains local Tanzanians to become high-level physicians in an effort to increase the quality of life and medical care within East Africa. The school is managed and funded by a nonprofit out of New York, the Touch Foundation. This is an exciting opportunity for me and one I still can't quite believe is finally coming to fruition!
